About the Film Collaborative

The Film Collaborative (FC) on the UMNTC is a coalition of scholars, critics, artists, and filmmaking professionals devoted to the appreciation, study, research, and practice of cinema. The Collaborative includes faculty from Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, English, German, Scandinavian and Dutch, French and Italian, the Department of Art, Theater Arts and Dance, and Asian Languages and Literatures. At present, there is no dedicated film center on campus through which film activities, whether from within the University of Minnesota or originating in the larger community, may be organized, publicized, and shared. The FC has initiated such a venue. We engage in dialogue with local institutions including: The Walker Art Center film programs, the undergraduate film major in the Department of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, the Minnesota Film Arts and its programs and festivals, as well as the existing IAS Collaboratives.
